Betsy Braddock was always known for being a bit risky in her attire and often wears her Hand inspired one-piece uniform that allows very free movement, with a sensual red sash around her waist. Outside of her uniform, Betsy is a woman with a taste for some of the finer things. Coming from a family with considerable inheritance, Psylocke never needs much. Her hair is naturally straight in her new Asian body, despite the curls of her former self. Standing at 5’11”, Betsy is still a model potential as far as beauty goes. All three children, Brian, Betsy, and their older sibling Jamie, needed little as children. They were born into one of the founding families of the Hellfire Club with a great deal of inheritance. That inheritance funded their parents scientific research. Because of their parents schedules, a great deal of their life was controlled by an artificial intelligence known as Nanny. Elizabeth spent her childhood looking up to the eldest brother, James Braddock Jr or Jamie. He was a famous race car driver and lived life to the fullest. He drove the most luxurious cars- Ferraris and Mercedes. She idolized him, but no one was closer than her twin brother. Betsy spent the majority of her adolescence stealing Brian the bookworm’s books and forcing him to play with her. All the while, Jamie was actually jealous of their bond. Because of their fundamental differences, Betsy got her pilots license before she even learned to drive. All the while, Brian was attending university. During this time, after the deaths of their parents, the family grew apart. Brian had become Captain Britain, keeping it secret from Betsy. Betsy, on the other hand, had developed precognition and low-level telepathy. She caught the attention of the Psi division of STRIKE and led a double life. By day, Elizabeth Braddock was a world famous super model. She ruled the covers of Vogue and Cosmo. She enchanted the runways from New York to Milan. By night, however, she led a very different life. She was trained by one of the worlds most efficient government agencies to bring down crime. On one of her first assignments, Betsy infiltrated the Club that she loved so much in her youth. Her father used to take her to the London Branch of the Hellfire Club- A place of lavish galas and sin. She was drawn to it. Her mission was to infiltrate the New York Black King, Sebastian Shaw. The mission was a failure. Shaw’s assistant, Tessa, turned her away in her inexperience, telling Betsy that she was out of her league. Little did Betsy know that Tessa was working under Charles Xavier. A year or so into STRIKE, it was being infiltrated by a villain named Vixon and her henchmen. Knowing that the Psi division was her biggest threat, she began assassinating them one by one, causing them to go on the run. Seeing no other option, Betsy contacted her brother Brian. The two were to meet in a bar. The two hadn’t seen each other in ages, so they were shocked to see Betsy with purple hair and Brian being all grown up and studly. The Psi division took refuge with Brian at Braddock Manor. The mansion was infiltrated and Betsy felt her lover, Tom Lennox’s death. The event was the most traumatic thing in her life thus far. They escaped Mad Jim Jaspers and Betsy learned to focus her powers even more. A short time later, an alternate reality Brian Braddock, Captain Briton, replaced Betsys brother. In the middle of the night, the evil Brian snuck into Betsy’s room, believing her defenseless, and tried to rape her. Elizabeth unleashed her telepathic powers and murdered him. This was significant because Betsy, even before her assassin transformation, believed she was a tiger in the body of a butterfly. A short while later, after Brian swore off the Captain Britain name, an RCX agent named Gabriel convinced Betsy to take over. Being the adventurous spirit, the chance to be a superhero was thrilling to the naive Betsy Braddock. Her first assignment put her up against one of Brian’s oldest villains- Slaymaster. She was overwealmed and butchered, calling her brother telepathically from a distant place to save her. The event left her blind, but she explained to her friends that she had no need for eyes because of her now powerful telepathy. After the incident, she and a few friends went skiing in Switzerland. While there, Mojo and Spiral kidnapped Betsy. They gave her artificial eyes and the name Psylocke. She became a star of the show Wildways. Magneto’s New Mutants got involved and Psylocke was able to break free of their control in a brillian display of power. Then, a nude Betsy woke up on top of a young Douglas Ramsey in a store room after it was all over. Psylocke took residence at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters debating where she belonged. She saw the dichotomy between the X-Men and New Mutants and longed to stay, but she wasn’t trusted by them. She was a stranger to them, but Betsy knew that she had to prove herself to them. The opportunity came when the Marauder known as Sabertooth infiltrated the school. Betsy knew she had to lead him away from the injured in the infirmary no matter the cost to her health. She used her telepathy in a manifiscent show, but he was so fast that she couldn’t focus. Running, Betsy taunted the feral mutant long enough until Wolverine could make his appearance. Before the X-Men could step in and help Wolverine, Psylocke explained to Storm and Magneto that Sabertooth’s mind was free. She could never penetrate his defenses at any other time… And that Wolverine could survive- He would have to. She was able to ascertain important information about the Marauders that saved lives. Overhearing Storm and the others discussing Betsy’s display of courage and that she would be an excellent addition to the X-Men if that was what she wished. Betsy spoke up, claiming that it was exactly what she wanted. After a short period with the X-Men, Psylocke began to feel defenseless against beings like the Juggernaut and Sentinels, so she began training with Wolverine and acquired an armor to take the brunt of attacks. This began Betsy’s ascension to warriorhood. She became more fierce on the battlefield, often using her long cape to blind opponents while stronger characters like Rogue could step in. Eventually, Betsy became the leader of the X-Men. She was forced with an incredible decision to make regarding the Siege Perlious. The X-Men’s futures would be uncertain and they would be sent to the ends of the earth… Or they would be slaughtered. Psylocke used her telepathic influence to force the resisting X-Men through. After Psylocke herself went through the gate, her body washed ashore in Japan. Her mind was left only in fragments, but she provided the perfect opportunity for a man who lost the love of his life. Matsu’o, leader of The Hand, struck a deal with Mojo, Spiral, and their Body Shoppe with a combination of magic and science. Spiral did her job too well, however. Elizabeth Braddock and a powerful empath known as Kwannon switched and melded minds. Kwannon’s mind was thought to be gone, but Matsu’o thought that if he could at least have her body… What he did was evil, but he did it out of love. Kwannon was the best assassin for The Mandarin, so Psylocke was given to them under the new name Lady Mandarin. She used her lord’s rings and her own psychic powers in order to secure a place in the Far East’s crime underground. This new Psylocke’s memories were confusing, showing both Kwannon and Elizabeth Braddock’s. During a skirmish with Wolverine, driving her psychic knife into his head forced these memories to flood back into her mind, breaking the mind control. Wolverine, Psylocke, and Jubilee left. Not long after, they ran into the Upstarts Fenris twins and Matsuo. Elizabeth pretended to be under their control in order to free the X-Men, causing more distrust among the X-Men. In the end, Elizabeth proved herself with a very large gun against Cameron Hodge and the Upstarts. Psylocke became a regular member of Cyclops’ Blue Strike Team along the sides of Beast, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, and Jubilee, whom Psylocke openly didn’t care for. The team faced off against a variety of foes including Magneto and Omega Red. She proved herself an asset to the Blue team. During her time on this team, Elizabeth found herself attracted to Cyclops (as all telepaths seem to). She caught him staring at her from time to time and she manipulated the situation as much as possible, filling his mind with thoughts of their bodies intertwined. The situation came to a head when Jean Grey found out about their fling. Psylocke never expressed much concern for Jean’s feelings. Jean shut down the Danger Room and asked, point blank if they were having an affair. Psylocke’s response was that she wanted to feel his hands running through her hair but no- they weren’t having an affair. While this was happening, the Institute’s defense systems were detecting two Psylocke’s. Psylocke and Jean began to fight with Psylocke clearly winning. Psylocke’s former self appeared and she believed it was Jean who had programmed the Danger Room so Psylocke would face her fear that she wasn’t who she believed to be. The former Psylocke used her psychic katana on the Asian Psylocke claiming her to be an imposter. Wolverine pinned Asian Psylocke against the wall with his claws demanding an explanation to which she refused. She didn’t need to explain herself to the likes of him, especially after what they went through in Asia. Neither Wolverine’s scent or Xavier’s telepathy could tell the difference. Because of the confusion, British Betsy or Revanche joined as an unofficial X-Men. Revanche, Psylocke, Beast, and Gambit flew to Japan on a mission where they found a painting of Psylocke that Revanche tried to use as proof that Psylocke was an imposter. Psylocke wasn’t so sure of herself despite the front she put on. She remembered things she shouldn’t. Back at the Mansion, Revanche revealed she had contracted the Legacy Virus. Beast and Xavier wanted to run some tests, but the stubborn Revanche refused to be pricked and prodded. As she was walking outside, Psylocke attacked her, testing her. Revanche claimed that she could still fight and kill if she needed. Psylocke countered that Betsy Braddock never did those things. Revanche replied that maybe she should have. As the Legacy Virus was taking over Revanche’s body and enhancing her psychic powers, the truth became clear to her. She fled the mansion to seek out her former lover “Matta”. He killed her out of honor. Revanche left her psychic remnants with him during a kiss to return to Psylocke. It became clear to Psylocke what exactly had happened. She apologized to Jean Grey for meddling, claiming it was Revanche’s empathic powers influencing them, not that she didn’t find Scott Summers attractive. After everything that had happened, a romance began to form between Psylocke and Archangel, who has experienced transformation at the hands of Apocalypse. She confided in him about the eyes Revanche had left behind. She threw them into the lake, deciding not to tell everyone. Later, Psylocke watched as Boom Boom was taunted by a captured Sabertooth. Charles Xavier believed he could help Sabertooth as he had Wolverine, so he was psychically treating him. Boom Boom had helped nurse Sabertooth back to health and soon blasted him with her timebombs, freeing him. Sabertooth leapt to attack the young mutant only to be kicked back by Psylocke who demanded she alert the others. Psylocke defended herself well. With the perfect opportunity she plunged her psychic knife into his skull with enough power to kill only to find out that since Wolverine had essentially performed a lobotomy, her powers had no effect. He beat her to a pulp and escaped. Psylocke was left in a coma for many weeks. It’s relevant to note that during this time, Gambit considered killing the comatose Elizabeth Braddock because she had been searching his mind unauthorized. She had subconsciously found out about Gambit’s involvement with the Morlock Massacre (back when Psylocke first faced off against Sabertooth). Wolverine, Archangel, and Dr. Strange retrieved the Crimson Dawn to save her life. Upon using it, Psylocke was adorned with a red tattoo over one of her eyes. Little did they know, the Crimson Dawn began to turn Psylocke into a darker entity. She was able to teleport with the use of shadows. Her personality began slipping into a darker, apathetic side… Straining her relationship with Archangel. Sometime later, after a break from the X-Men, Psylocke joined others to visit Storm’s village in Kenya after a distress call. During teleportation, Psylocke and Wolverine were attacked by warriors and separated from the others. A God was manipulating the village. Psylocke, rejoining the others, explained that he was no God. He was a powerful telepath who was manipulating the others. He had separated them because he was threatened by Psylocke. Psylocke failed to get through the God’s defenses, so she took everyone into the Astral Plane, manifesting herself in her Lady Mandarin armor. It was revealed that it was the Shadow King who had tricked Psylocke. The distress call wasn’t meant for Storm at all. He had tricked her into releasing a shockwave that depowered even the most powerful telepaths on the planet. Psylocke was the world’s last defense against the Shadow King, but he easily defeated her and her body crumbled. Then, Psylocke woke in darkness. The Crimson Dawn that was possessing her soul had saved her life and granted her a new shadow form in the Astral Plane, allowing her to maintain invisibility from the Shadow King. She protected Storm and her Mother as long as she could before revealing herself to the Shadow King. She thrust her friends out of the Astral Plane in order to engage Shadow King, who was intrigued by her new form. He offered to make her his Shadow Queen, and she pretended to be interested. He had taunted her earlier for being an insignificant X-Man- Not needed if Jean Grey was around. She tricked Shadow King into stretching his psychic power too thin, revealing his nexus. Her darkness controlling powers trapped him and she taunted that he was defeated by “one insignificant X-Man.” Upon exiting the Astral Plane, she explained that she would have to maintain all of her telepathic powers to just keep him occupied. Storm reassured her that she would forever be an X-Man. Sometime later, Jean was attempting to help Psylocke deal with the loss of her powers and managed to switch powers. Jean gained Psylocke’s telepathy and Psylocke gained telekinesis. Psylocke loved the power. She was able to fly! Being a pilot, she loved the feeling. She practiced using her powers in the Danger Room, dreaming of running into Sabertooth again. After learning to use her teke, she began openly flirting with a new X-Man named Thunderbird, despite Warren Worthington’s presence. The two ended their relationship as it became clear that what they wanted differed. Psylocke was then invited to join Storm on a secret, separate team of X-Men to find Destiny’s Diarys, which sounded intriguing. On their first mission, Psylocke sacrificed herself at the hands of Vargas. She was autopsied and her body was sent back to Britain with Brian, who knew he’d get that call one day. However, Psylocke wouldn’t be dead for long. Her older brother Jamie controlled the strings of reality. With a few plucks, he caused Psylocke to be resurrected on the site of her death exactly a year after. She was taken into custody until the X-Men arrived. Psylocke blamed Bishop for whatever had happened since she broke the rules and visited him before she moved on. She blasted him with an impressive wave of power until stopped by Storm. Psylocke had quite the attitude for being treated like a prisoner. The X-Men were called on a mission before they could return home, locking Psylocke in the X-Jet. They got into trouble and X-23 freed Psylocke. X-23 began looking up to the more feminine Psylocke in the Savage Lands, imitating her gestures and such. Psylocke proved essential in returning the Savage Lands to normal. Upon returning home, Psylocke received mixed feelings from those around her. She expressed her dissatisfaction that Jean Grey received a whole monument in the middle of the new school. Nightcrawler told her to play nice and that Jean was there first, though Psylocke would always outrank jean in his book. She was told that there was a memorial garden dedicated to her that Beast made. She had died in his arms. Emma Frost showed her head, showing distaste for the purple haired mutant, though in a fabulously backhanded way. Psylocke disregarded Emma and asked, “Since this is the year for resurrections, shouldn’t we be counting down the days till you know who returns from the white hot you know what to reclaim her husband?” Emma responded that she should have stayed dead. Eventually, Psylocke’s telepathy slowly returned as described in the powers section. She became a full-time member of the X-Men again. the role player alias • Chuck age • 28 pronouns • He other characters • Selene and Shaw |
