overall history • The Underdwellers were Gotham City's orphans. To survive, they stole food from others. They all ran to Gotham's sewers as it rained and came across a man known as the Sewer King. They didn't have anywhere else to go.
The Sewer King and the children became known as the Underdwellers. They were to remain silent due to children being seen and not heard. Any kid mentioning anything was placed in a light-filled room for a few hours. They began to dread the Sewer King.
Although the Sewer King fed the children and clothed them, he also disciplined them. He dangled them near his hungry pet alligators and placed them in light-filled rooms. He always shouted near the children. The Sewer King even used a staff to discipline the children if they angered him. How he was quick to remind them about how he cared for them.
The Underdwellers wore green cloaks with hoods when they ran to the streets to steal lots and lots of pretties for their king.
One evening, Frog was gone and the enraged Sewer King sent the children to find him. Some children remained in the sewer to sweep and fix clothes. Frog appeared with Batman before the Sewer King sent his alligators to devour Batman.
After Batman defeated the Sewer King, the children were sent to good homes.
The children eventually wandered from their homes. They found one another and were happily reunited. They stole from others without the Sewer King in NYC. Although, fate brought them to the Sewer King again.
