NEAR STARS
Reverend Amos Howell glanced back after he heard footsteps. He remained by his bedroom window and remembered viewing stars earlier. He viewed Kara appearing.
''Are you looking forward to eating chocolate cake in a few minutes?''
Reverend Amos Howell frowned and nodded. He turned to the stars. ''Unity is eternal.''
Kara began to frown. ''Your master? The one hitting you? Knocking you down? Causing your tears? Controlling you?''
Reverend Amos Howell glowered at Kara. ''I gathered other victims for Unity. I HAD TO!''
''My parents adopted you. They took you in after Unity abandoned you. Why are you preaching about Unity again?''
''I AM a preacher!''
''You can search for Unity and find him before there are new bruises on you. Your other option? Eat cake with your new family. You're not your master's victim any longer.''
''I was always Unity's preacher.''
''After Unity struck you. After Unity abandoned you.''
Reverend Amos Howell watched while Kara turned and abandoned him. After his body tensed, he walked into the kitchen.
He took a slice of chocolate cake and ate it without words. Reverend Amos Howell smiled near Jonathan and Martha Kent. He nodded.
''Many thanks,'' he said in a sincere tone.
Martha and Jonathan smiled together.
After Reverend Amos Howell returned to his bedroom, he frowned again. He approached the window. He recalled Unity
knocking him down. Causing tears. Eventually abandoning him. Jonathan and Martha adding him to their family. The preacher's new family.
Tears streamed down Reverend Amos Howell's face as he stood near stars another time. Sobbing, he remembered Unity hurting him then. Unity always hurting his preacher.

KARA'S SMILE
CHAPTER 1
Kara began to smile near the kitchen window. She looked forward to defeating one or two villains as Supergirl. Perhaps many villains.
Kara turned to Jonathan and Martha Kent with Reverend Amos Howell. She viewed them sitting near the table. Her eyes remained on Jonathan and Martha while they smiled. She shuddered as Reverend Amos Howell frowned with wide eyes and looked ahead.
''I'm going out. I'll return as soon as possible,'' Kara said to Martha and Jonathan. A new frown replaced her smile after they exchanged glances. She saw matching frowns.
''You said you were going to run errands for us,'' Martha said.
Kara blinked twice. ''When?''
''Last night.''
Kara's shoulders slumped. ''Right. I remember.''
''We're going to complete farm tasks while you run errands. Reverend Amos Howell is going to help us with animals.'' There was a new smile as Martha glanced at Reverend Amos Howell. She viewed him nodding.
Kara faced Reverend Amos Howell and began to shudder again. His new smile caused her to wince. Eyes remained wide. His smile seemed to stretch from ear to ear. *An alien in a preacher's form caring for animals? He'll most likely devour a few chickens!* she thought.
Reverend Amos Howell faced Jonathan and Martha. He continued to smile. ''I'll run errands.''
Martha and Jonathan smiled another time. They gave a sheet of paper to him. They faced Kara. ''You can care for the animals, Kara,'' they said.
Kara frowned at Reverend Amos Howell. *I'll care for THAT animal later!* she thought.
CHAPTER 2
A few minutes later, Kara viewed Reverend Amos Howell abandoning the farm. She wondered why he was so interested in running errands.
Perhaps something different. Anything other than usually caring for animals.
Kara watched while Jonathan fed chickens and Martha milked cows. That was when she remembered their new pigs. Her shoulders slumped another time. Kara approached the pigs. *I guess errands aren't bad. Not like feeding pigs* she thought.
Kara tried to feed the loud pigs, but they were fast. The pigs ran in different directions. A corner of her mouth went up. *I'm faster.*
Kara almost used superhuman speed to feed the pigs before she viewed four teens wandering near the farm. *Hm?* she thought.
She tilted her head to one side. Kara never remembered viewing them earlier. There was a slight shrug. *They're probably looking for something to do.*
Eyes remained on the teens before they disappeared from view. *The teens should help with the pigs* Kara thought. After using her superhuman speed to feed the animals, she smiled again. She looked back. There was a new frown on her face. *What are the teens up to?*
Martha and Jonathan were approached.
''I'm going to check on Amos.''
''Are you finished with feeding the pigs?'' Jonathan asked.
Kara nodded. She viewed her foster parents exchanging glances.
Jonathan and Martha smiled.
''Go ahead,'' Martha said.
''Thanks,'' Kara said after a new smile. She walked far from the farm. She paused before her eyes widened.
CHAPTER 3
Kara recognized the teens from earlier. Her wide eyes were on them while they stood in a circle. She heard them.
''Preacher, how about a trim?''
''Are we going to burn for eternity?''
''This is fun!''
*Amos!* After frowning again, Kara approached the teens. She watched as they turned their heads. She saw their happy expressions before they fled. Kara's eyes were on Amos. She shook her head in disbelief.
Amos winced with his back on the ground. His hat was near his head. He scowled at his torn coat. There were a few bruises
on his arms.
Jonathan and Martha appeared with expressions of concern.
''You're going to the hospital,'' Jonathan said to Amos.
''I'll be fine, Jonathan. There are some bruises.'' Amos tried to smile. He began to wince another time. ''I'll rest in my bedroom.'' He glanced at Kara. ''I don't loathe you.''
Kara tilted her head to one side again.
CHAPTER 4
Many minutes went by. Kara frowned and stood by a bed. She watched while Amos remained under a blanket. Her eyes were on a sudden frown.
Amos turned so that he faced the wall. He fell asleep.
Kara abandoned Amos and stepped into her bedroom. The window was approached at a snail's pace. Kara's frown remained. She remembered one smile. *I was going to defeat villains. I couldn't protect Amos from teens.*
Curiosity was why Kara tilted her head to one side another time. ''I don't loathe you.'' The preacher's last words before he fell asleep. Perhaps he understood why she wasn't present. Why she didn't protect him. Worry appeared in Kara's eyes. *I'm why there are bruises on him.*
One hour later, Kara ate a slice of chocolate cake within the kitchen. She sat with Jonathan and Martha. Kara blinked repeatedly as soon as Amos appeared and sat across from her. She watched while he frowned again.
''How are you, Amos? Are you hungry?'' Martha asked with concern in her eyes.
Amos smiled. ''I'm fine.'' He nodded. He viewed Martha standing and obtaining a slice of chocolate cake. ''Many thanks,'' Amos said in a sincere tone after she returned with a plate. He focused on the cake slice.
Kara's smile returned.
''Are you going to feed chickens?'' Jonathan asked after he glanced at Amos.
There was a new frown. ''My bruises are going to remain for two weeks,'' Amos said.
Jonathan faced Kara.
Another frown materialized on Kara's face. She faced Amos. *There are going to be new bruises on a certain preacher's arms. A certain preacher's new tears* Kara thought.
THE END
WHY KARA WAS CONCERNED
CHAPTER 1
Reverend Amos Howell approached Unity after he frowned. He never found anyone for his master to control. He began to bow within a tent. ''I apologize for never finding others to lure. I'm willing to suffer the consequences,'' Reverend Amos Howell said. His eyes were on every writhing tentacle and light eye.
A tentacle struck one side of Reverend Amos Howell's body.
Reverend Amos Howell cried out before he was knocked down. He winced after he fell on his side. *I'm willing to suffer the consequences.* Reverend Amos Howell's legs trembled as he tried to stand. Another tentacle struck his face this time. There was a different cry.
*I should suffer the consequences.*
Reverend Amos Howell refused to touch his red face. Perhaps there were going to be others in Smallville. Even if there were very few people. Unity always conquered worlds by controlling minds. Not this world. As long as Reverend Amos Howell never found anyone.
Perhaps a few people were curious about the tent Unity was in. Perhaps they were willing to enter the tent without the preacher luring them into it.
After Reverend Amos Howell stepped out of the tent, he searched for anyone for Unity to control. There was a new frown. Reverend Amos Howell wondered if Unity was willing to replace him. Perhaps there was going to be a new preacher. Unity's new preacher? Not possible!
Reverend Amos Howell wandered Smallville for what seemed like hours. Barren areas. Scowling, he decided to return to Unity again.
His master was most likely going to hit him no matter what. He tried to remember when Unity was kind near him. If he was kind.
The tent was approached.
Eyes widened at a snail's pace.
CHAPTER 2
Unity was never out of the tent. At least until now.
Reverend Amos Howell's eyes remained wide as he ran to Unity. They settled on three people near his master. Their eyes were wide for different reasons. As though Unity controlled them.
''Your new victims were curious near the tent? They walked into it recently?''
''Yes and yes.''
''Are your new victims replacing me? Are they going to be your new preachers?''
''Yes and yes.''
''I'll find others for you sooner or later,'' Reverend Amos Howell said to Unity.
''You're useless.''
Reverend Amos Howell trembled before he stepped back. ''I was always your preacher,'' he said to Unity.
''You aren't my preacher any longer,'' Unity said.
Reverend Amos Howell continued to tremble as Unity abandoned him. He collapsed on all fours against his will. Tears streamed down his face. Reverend Amos Howell began to sob. Which was more painful? Unity hitting him? Unity abandoning him? The two?
Although Reverend Amos Howell was usually a traveler, he lacked shelter. Unity wasn't with him. There wasn't any desire to travel. Except to find shelter.
CHAPTER 3
After the memory, Reverend Amos Howell stood near his bedroom window. He frowned. His other memory? Finding a farm recently.
Knocking on the door. A woman opening it.
Reverend Amos Howell introduced himself before a man appeared. He heard their names. Martha and Jonathan Kent. ''I'm a humble traveler, but I desire shelter. I'm exhausted and hungry. Please let a preacher remain with you for some time.''
Martha and Jonathan exchanged glances. They smiled before he stepped into their home.
Reverend Amos Howell started to smile. ''Thank you. The Reverend Amos Howell. At your service.''
A teen girl appeared before her eyes widened near Reverend Amos Howell. His dark eyes and smile caused her to shudder.
''This is Kara. Our foster daughter. Kara, this is Reverend Amos Howell. He'll be staying with us for some time,'' Jonathan said.
Kara frowned. ''Uhhh huuuuh.''
The memory vanished. Reverend Amos Howell continued to frown and stand near the window. His new foster parents seemed nice. As for Kara? She never interacted with him a whole lot. She usually had a sort of emergency or shuddered near him. When Kara actually interacted with him? To mention meal times.
Reverend Amos Howell moved his long hair back so that a bruise was revealed. A bruise on the side of his face.
Reverend Amos Howell heard footsteps before his eyes were wide.
CHAPTER 4
''It's time for supper,'' Kara said as she frowned. Her eyes were on the bruise. Concern appeared in them. Kara approached Reverend Amos Howell. She moved his hair back. She viewed him scowling.
''Let me treat that bruise.''
''I'LL BE FINE!'' Reverend Amos Howell snapped. He watched while Kara stepped back. ''My apologies for snapping. I should be fine. The bruise is going to eventually disappear.'' He refused to reveal Unity hitting him occasionally. *Why would Jonathan and Martha allow an alien in a preacher's form to remain? An alien luring others to his master. An alien conquering worlds with his master.*
Reverend Amos Howell viewed Kara departing. He turned to the window another time. New family members were kind. Even Kara sometimes. Unity never provided food for Reverend Amos Howell. His new family never struck him. Abandoned him. Said he was useless.
New tears streamed down Reverend Amos Howell's face. Part of him continued to consider himself as Unity's preacher. He sobbed for a few minutes.
Reverend Amos Howell moved his long hair so that it concealed his bruise again. After entering the kitchen, he sat with his new family. He saw meat with potatoes before his smile came back. His bruises were going to eventually disappear and his happy expression remained.

Baby-Doll found herself within a cell. At least a cell was shelter.
