THE PIG PIT
Kara turned to Reverend Amos Howell before she smiled. She continued to walk by his side. ''All-you-can-eat tonight,'' she said.
A new frown replaced Kara's smile as Amos scowled and looked ahead. ''The Pig Pit. We're not walking to a cemetery.''
Amos began to turn to one area between two general stores. His scowl remained as he viewed three teens standing near the stores.
His eyes were on them while they stood and glowered at him. Even after Unity abandoned Amos, he was still nosy.
''The teens aren't going to follow us,'' Kara said. The Pig Pit caused her to smile another time. After she entered the restaurant, she eventually sat across from Amos. ''All-you-can-eat. Remember? Smile.'' Her frown returned the minute Amos glanced back every now and then.
Kara and Amos eventually smiled after there were large amounts of food on their plates. They ate a bit before they heard footsteps.
Amos looked back. His eyes widened after he recognized the teens from earlier. His body tensed as soon as he viewed their happy expressions.
The teens approached the table.
''Preacher, are you nosy?''
''What are you going to preach about this time?''
One teen smiled near Kara. ''Your daughter is cute,'' he said to Amos.
Scowling, Kara moved her plate to one side. ''I lost my appetite.''
Amos scowled again and stood. He turned to the teens. He almost said something to them when Kara paid for their food. After following Kara out of the restaurant, he glanced at her. ''Go to the farm. I'll be with you shortly,'' he said.
''What are you up to?''
Amos glowered at Kara before she abandoned him.
Many minutes later, Kara stood in front of the farm before Amos returned. She shuddered as soon as one smile stretched his face.
''The teens won't bother us again, Kara.''
THE END
A TIGHT LEASH
Supergirl frowned and punched a villain twice in Smallville. She remembered viewing the latter attacking a few people minutes ago. For cash and fun. She was going to protect others. No matter what. Supergirl heard a familiar voice. One Southern accent.
''I FOUND YOU! IT'S LATE!''
Supergirl viewed Reverend Amos Howell scowling. After blinking twice, she flew to him. She wondered if Amos saw her empty bed after he thought she slumbered.
''YOU'RE GROUNDED FOR SIX MONTHS!''
Supergirl's eyes widened. ''I'm on a tight leash?'' Supergirl viewed Amos glowering and nodding at the same time.
''You don't remember Unity's tight leash? You don't remember Unity controlling you? Hitting you?''
Tears formed in Reverend Amos Howell's eyes as his body tensed. He glanced at Supergirl. ''You're grounded for one day tomorrow.
Go. Protect others in Smallville.'' Amos and Supergirl exchanged smiles before she flew to the villain. He stood and waited.
The leash was gone.
THE END
BY SIDES
Reverend Amos Howell struggled to see anything as he carried two large bags. He remembered running errands for Martha and Jonathan Kent. Frowning, he also recalled Unity sending him to gather others in Smallville a few weeks ago. Before Unity abandoned him. Wished to replace his preacher with others unfortunate enough to be controlled by the alien. There was a new memory.
Amos remembered being near Unity's side occasionally. A different memory? Kara Kent standing by his side sometimes.
Helping him with farm tasks and church activities, running errands, etc.
Amos continued to frown before he glanced at a barren area. Before he viewed many trees in Smallville. The area where Unity first appeared. Where he controlled Amos. The frown remained. He paused and trembled at the same time.
''I found you.''
Amos ceased trembling prior to wide eyes. He turned to Kara before she stood by his side.
''You were gone for a long time,'' Kara said.
Amos frowned again.
''Are you remembering Unity?''
After looking ahead, Amos trembled another time. Many tears ran down his long face. Amos sobbed as he remembered Unity abandoning him.
Frowning, Kara touched a shoulder and remained by the preacher's side for what seemed like hours.
THE END
KARA'S GOOD DEED
Concern appeared in Kara's eyes after she viewed Reverend Amos Howell standing near his bedroom window and scowling.
''Are you remembering your master? Unity hitting you if you don't return with new victims for him to control?'' she wished to know. Kara watched as Amos turned to her and continued to scowl. ''I guess you are remembering Unity,'' she said. A thoughtful expression formed before her eyes widened. Kara smiled.
''Are you hungry?''
Amos nodded at a snail's pace.
''You're going to a new restaurant. Shut your eyes.'' Kara watched while one eye widened. ''You'll enjoy the food,'' she said. Kara's smile remained as Amos obeyed. She got behind him and seized his arms. She began to guide him.
''At least you're not blindfolding me and viewing me walking into a tree for fun,'' Amos said.
Kara continued to smile. ''You scowled and refused to address me for a week,'' she said. She found herself walking far from the farm. Kara approached a small restaurant and opened the door. After stepping into the restaurant, she was eventually near a table. She released Amos and sat across from him.
''Don't open your eyes,'' Kara said. She turned to a waiter and wrote something down on paper. Kara gave the sheet to him.
''Why the new restaurant?''
''My good deed. You shouldn't remember Unity and cheer up.'' Many minutes later, Kara viewed the waiter returning with plates and placing them on the table. She turned to Amos. ''You can open your eyes.'' He obeyed again.
Octopus arms caused the preacher's eyes to widen. Octopus arms just like what Unity had. How Unity always managed to hurt his preacher.
Kara's eyes were wide as soon as Amos glowered at her.
''THIS ISN'T FUNNY!'' Amos stood and abandoned the confused girl.
THE END
THE PREACHER'S DREAM
Reverend Amos Howell cried out as soon as Unity struck his arm. He winced before he remembered returning to his master without others for him to control. He also recalled wandering Smallville for hours. Barren areas. Another tentacle contacted his other arm and knocked him down. That was when he opened his eyes and sat up in bed.
Amos found himself within a small bedroom. His eyes were wide. He glanced at a table by the window. His regular preacher clothes and hat were on it. Amos was on a blanket. One glance at the pale nightshirt and blue boxers he wore.
''My master abandoned me a few weeks ago. Kara's family took me in.'' He recalled his dream. Unity hitting him twice. Knocking him down. Tears streamed down his face before he sobbed. His shoulders moved up and down with every sob.
It wasn't a dream. One memory.
THE END
IF UNITY RETURNS
Kara ate a chocolate cake slice and glanced at Reverend Amos Howell before he imitated her. She recalled his smile when he helped with church activities or ate cake slices. His current smile. Kara also remembered other happy expressions. When Amos gathered victims for Unity. When he became one with Unity.
Was Unity going to return? Was Reverend Amos Howell going to return to Unity?
Worry formed in Kara's eyes. Although Unity abandoned Amos weeks ago, she wondered if the alien was going to search for other victims in Smallville. Was Amos eager to return to his master? To get on Unity's good side? Assuming Unity had a good side. Perhaps.
Amos saw Kara's expression of worry. A rare gentle smile materialized on his long face. ''I'm not going anywhere,'' he said to Kara. He viewed her smile.
It was the next day when Kara opened her eyes and sat up in bed. After dressing, she walked into the kitchen. Her eyes were wide after she viewed empty chairs. Kara remembered Amos usually eating a cake slice at the table. That was when she glanced at a sheet of paper on the table. She approached them.
''Kara, I'm running errands for Jonathan and Martha Kent. I'll return as soon as possible. Reverend Amos Howell.''
Frowning, Kara remembered his words about not going anywhere.
THE END
THE PREACHER'S MEMORY
It was midnight when Supergirl smiled. She looked forward to searching for villains and battling them in Smallville. Perhaps she was able to rest after one battle. Supergirl abandoned her bedroom. She glanced at another bedroom. She shuddered.
Reverend Amos Howell slumbered with his back to Supergirl. He was clad in a nightshirt and boxers.
Supergirl walked by the bedroom and eventually heard footsteps. Her eyes widened before she looked back. They were on Reverend Amos Howell as he scowled in his usual preacher clothes. She stepped back as he approached her.
''It's after midnight! Sneaking to battle villains?'' Amos continued to scowl before he slapped Supergirl across her face. He viewed her wincing.
''The strict preacher,'' Supergirl said as she scowled.
Amos raised a hand to slap Supergirl again when he remembered Unity hitting him if he returned without victims for his master to control. Other things were remembered. Extra hits. New bruises. The preacher's tears.
Amos lowered his hand before his eyes were wide. ''I, I'm sorry,'' he said in a sincere tone. He saw Supergirl's scowl.
''I remembered what it was like after my master struck me. I shouldn't hit others for any reason,'' Amos said. He viewed Supergirl flying to her bedroom and shutting the door. ''I'm sorry. I really am.'' He had to make amends, but how? One new smile formed.
It was the next day when Supergirl was ''Kara'' in her regular outfit. She stepped into the kitchen and scowled again as soon as she viewed Amos standing near the table. A large chocolate cake was on a platter. His smile caused her to shudder another time. She recalled Amos hitting her earlier. Her scowl returned.
''I baked a cake for you, Kara.''
The cake was approached with caution.
Amos gave a slice to Kara and continued to smile.
''Thanks?'' Kara took a bite and her eyes widened. The cake managed to burn her mouth. She watched while his eyes flew open again. Kara heard Amos as he apologized repeatedly. She found herself consuming three glasses of water.
Kara's scowl came back. She abandoned the farm before Amos was able to hurt her again.
THE END
LAMBS WANDER
Kara tilted her head to one side the minute she viewed a neighbor's lamb wandering near her farm. She began to remember Reverend Amos Howell stepping outside. She thought she remembered hearing him as he mentioned running errands for Jonathan and Martha Kent earlier. Kara smiled. ''I'm certain Amos is going to return the lamb to the neighbor.'' She walked from the kitchen window before she recalled something else. Her eyes flew open.
Kara opened the door before she closed it and ran. Her eyes remained wide after she paused. Kara viewed two paper bags on the ground. She watched while the lamb struggled in Reverend Amos Howell's arms. Long teeth were revealed as Amos tried to eat the lamb. The alien preacher. Kara glowered.
''PREACHER!''
Eyes settled on Kara prior to the preacher frowning. His eyes were wide for a moment. ''Kara! I was going to return the lamb to the neighbor,'' he said.
''Uh huh. You were too hungry to return the lamb?''
Amos shrugged. He released the lamb before it ran to Kara. After Amos carried the bags, he followed Kara and the lamb to the neighbor's farm. He viewed the gate door that was never closed. Amos smiled after Kara closed the door. He began to follow her again.
Amos found himself by Kara's farm. His eyes were on a few chickens as he continued to smile. He glanced at Kara's new scowl. ''I wasn't going to eat the chickens.''
''Uh huh.''
THE END
A SKI TRIP
Reverend Amos Howell glowered after Kara appeared in a ski outfit. ''You never mentioned a ski trip,'' he said to her.
He saw her frown.
''I mentioned a ski trip near my family twice recently.''
''Your entire family? You never said anything to me.''
''Maybe because you're a preacher,'' Kara said.
Reverend Amos Howell continued to glower. ''Don't forget it! I outrank everyone.'' He thought Kara stuck her tongue out.
''The ski trip is tomorrow, but my friend is picking me up tonight. Barbara Gordon.''
''You won't go. You mentioned helping me with church activities tomorrow.''
Kara's eyes flew open.
''There are also farm tasks.''
Tears formed in Kara's eyes. She heard a knock and walked to the door. She opened it and viewed Barbara. ''Sorry.
I just remembered other things. Maybe some other time?'' Kara saw Barbara's wide eyes. The latter's shoulders slumped.
''I understand.'' Barbara departed.
After Kara glowered at Amos, she went to her bedroom and dressed in her regular outfit. She eventually found herself in the kitchen again. She saw Jonathan and Martha Kent with Amos.
''There you are, Kara. It's time for farm tasks,'' Martha said as she smiled.
Kara frowned and nodded. She glanced at Reverend Amos Howell's smile.
''Reverend Amos Howell is going to help you with feeding the animals,'' Jonathan said. He thought the preacher's eyes widened.
Amos saw Kara's sudden smile and scowled at her.
THE END
IF PREACHERS PROTECT KARA
Reverend Amos Howell struggled to carry many bags as he walked near Kara in Metropolis. Although he enjoyed living with Kara's family, he sometimes wished that Jonathan and Martha ran their own errands. Then again, Jonathan and Martha always gave him chocolate cake slices. Even after he reluctantly helped with farm tasks occasionally. Amos didn't seem to mind helping Kara with the occasional church activity. Giving religious advice to anyone in Smallville.
Amos frowned and stumbled twice. He glanced at Kara. He remembered his other task. Protecting her from enemies. If Kara was harmed? Extra farm tasks? Zero chocolate cake slices?
There was a pause after Amos heard footsteps nearby. His eyes widened the minute three teens appeared and smiled.
''The bags must have nice things in them. We'll take them for you,'' one teen said.
Frowning, Amos placed the bags on the ground. He held his arm in front of Kara.
''Protecting your daughter? The preacher's daughter?''
Kara and Amos blinked at the same time.
The teens turned to a woman as she walked by with many jewels on her wrists and around her neck. They followed her.
''I should protect that woman,'' Kara said.
Amos scowled. ''I'm fond of chocolate cake slices.''
Kara tilted her head to one side.
''The woman is going to be fine,'' Amos said. After lifting the bags, he eventually found himself near a farm.
The bags were placed on a kitchen table. He saw Jonathan and Martha.
''Please help Kara with the animals tonight,'' Jonathan said as he smiled.
Amos glowered the minute he viewed Kara's smile. He began to regret protecting Kara.
THE END
THE LAST MINUTE
Reverend Amos Howell opened his eyes and sat up in bed. He remembered resting all day. Mentioning running errands for Martha and Jonathan Kent earlier. His eyes widened. He never ran errands in Smallville. There was one hour before Jonathan and Martha returned from Metropolis. He thought they mentioned visiting Clark Kent.
After Amos got out of bed, he dressed in his regular preacher clothes. A blouse with a black coat reaching his knees and a string tie. Dark trousers and matching shoes. One hat with a large brim. Eyes were wide another time. Amos ran out of his bedroom and into the kitchen. He opened the door and stepped outside. Amos closed the door before he ran again. He imagined Martha refusing to feed him fried chicken again if he never completed errands.
Amos continued to run. One glance at a few buildings. He thought he viewed three teens standing near one building. Curious, he paused after they approached him.
One teen smiled. ''Attack a preacher! Something to do!'' he said.
The other teens held chains and smiled. They surrounded Amos as his eyes widened.
The preacher's last minute without injuries.
THE END
MIDNIGHT MINUTES
Frowning, Reverend Amos Howell tossed and turned on his bed. His eyes settled on a clock. ''Almost midnight?'' He couldn't remember when he was able to rest for one entire evening. He usually opened his eyes every now and then. Amos sat up.
There was a glance at the usual preacher clothes on a chair. A hat with a large brim. One string tie on a blouse. A dark suit and matching shoes. Amos considered wandering Smallville after midnight. Perhaps he was eventually able to rest. He got dressed.
Amos winced while his stomach ached. His frown remained as he abandoned his bedroom. Amos walked into the kitchen. After approaching the fridge, he opened the door.
A few minutes later, Amos smiled as he sat near the table. He was going to rest sooner or later. He enjoyed eating a chocolate cake slice. A midnight snack.
THE END
MAYBE MIDNIGHT
Reverend Amos Howell frowned and bowed in front of his master. ''I'll suffer the consequences for returning without victims for you to control,'' he said. He cried out after Unity used a tentacle to hit his arm. He was knocked down.
The memory vanished as Amos stood near his bedroom window. He remembered Unity finding new victims and abandoning him. He scowled before many tears ran down his face. Amos approached his bed and never looked back.
''I am with a new family. Jonathan and Martha Kent with Kara.''
After Amos was on a bed, he fell asleep and smiled.
THE END
AFTER MIDNIGHT
Reverend Amos Howell cried out after his master knocked him down. He remembered returning to Unity without victims for him to control seconds ago. Amos winced as he suffered with Unity. He scowled before tears streamed down his face.
It was after midnight. Amos frowned and stood near a bedroom window. He remembered when Jonathan and Martha Kent adopted him after Unity abandoned him recently. There was another memory. One memory of a smile as he lured others to Unity.
Tears were revealed before he sobbed.
Amos remembered when he suffered with Unity. He suffered without Unity. Amos always suffered.

DECEMBER TREATS
The Sewer King approached many alligators and smiled. He viewed them eating bits of meat. He imitated them as he held a turkey leg. ''Are my pretty pets hungry again?'' the Sewer King asked after alligators ate. His eyes widened the minute one alligator took the turkey leg. He scowled.
THE END
DECEMBER MINUTES
One smile materialized on the Sewer King's face after a pet alligator fell asleep. After he stretched his arms, he walked to one area below the streets. The Sewer King took the item and returned to the alligator. He fell asleep with a stuffed alligator in his arms. Christmas gifts.

FRESH STRAWBERRIES
The Sewer King's eyes widened as soon as many children appeared with fresh strawberries. A new scowl formed.
''You never obtained lots and lots of pretties for your king? To the streets!'' He viewed his children running.
The Sewer King ate two strawberries and smiled. Perhaps strawberries instead of pretties.

THE BANK
Baby-Doll smiled after she stepped into a bank. Her toddler-like appearance was the perfect way to distract others. Use her catchphrase from the show she starred in before she robbed the bank. ''I didn't mean to.''
Happy enthusiasts surrounded Baby-Doll. ''Say your catchphrase again.''
Baby-Doll scowled after the bank closed.

A SILVER BRACELET
The sight of a silver bracelet caused Baby-Doll to smile. A pretty for her. She approached a girl and took the bracelet before she wore it. Baby-Doll viewed another girl with one emerald bracelet. She continued to smile after the bracelet fell. The new bracelet was added to Baby-Doll's jewelry.
THE END
ONE DECEMBER EVENING
Baby-Doll wandered the streets before she paused. Her eyes widened after three people smiled near her.
Baby-Doll expected everyone to shop for holiday presents.
''I loved Love that Baby! The show you starred in.''
Baby-Doll smiled. New fans? Perfect Christmas gifts.
A stray kitten purred near Baby-Doll. A new fan.

He scowled.

Baby-Doll wandered the streets before she paused. Her eyes widened after three people smiled near her.
Baby-Doll expected everyone to shop for holiday presents.
''I loved Love that Baby! The show you starred in.''
Baby-Doll smiled. New fans? Perfect Christmas gifts.
A stray kitten purred near Baby-Doll. A new fan.
