The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword

[Prof. Louis Winston]

An alarm clock rang loudly on Professor Winston's desk,which he did not acknowledge immediately. Instead he promptly gave out instructions for homework assignments to each student on an individual basis, a common practice for him. His students where his pride and joy. Watching them filter out of the classroom he peeled a banana with his hands and opened a can of cola with his feet. Adjusting his chair and placing his feet on the desk he enjoyed his well deserved lunch.

The clock read 12:15 by the time he was done eating as his personal A.I Athena, spoke up. 
"Professor Winston? It's time for your afternoon workout, may I remind you it has been one hundred and seventy-two days since your last cardio session? On another note, your diet is not at one hundred percent efficiency for an X-men operative."

Louis sighed heavily, "Yes Athena, I'm well aware. I thought I told you to stop monitoring my vitals? And that's FORMER x-man operative. I'm a teacher now remember? Maybe your programming needs an update..."

"Understood Sir." Athena responded. 

With another heavy sigh and a roll of his eyes, he decided it was probably in his best interest to head down to the danger room. Opening the classroom door and locking it tightly behind himself, Professor Winston lumbered slowly down the hall towards the danger room. 

"Welcome Professor." came the automated response as he entered the control room. Setting the threat level to 4, a minimum requirement for X-men training, Winston swung over the bars effortlessly and down onto the danger room's main floor. 

As the environment formed around him, he appeared to be in the savage lands, jungle all around him. 
"This is going to be fun." he said aloud as he quickly swung through the branches to climb higher. Spotting his quarry less than one hundred meters away, Winston began to travel towards it so fast it was almost as if he was flying. 

Clearly this particular simulation had pre-selected an opponent for him, Kraven the Hunter. Louis chuckled at the irony before swinging nimbly in a tree above his quarry, dropping down to face the Hunter. 

"Poaching is illegal in the civilised world mate." he said as he landed less than five feet from the man. The simulated Kraven leapt into the air towards him before being grabbed mid-air by the large primate. Gripping hold of the man's left leg, he swung him around, bashing him into the ground a few times, soon enough the hunter was defeated. 

"Athena! End simulation." he said before leaping up to the control room, taking a seat and peeling another banana. 

[Jubilee]

"Welcome, Jubilee," the Danger Room's voice said loudly as the mutant firecracker walked into the room. Yes. Firecracker. Not some gauntleted girl named Wondra. Not some powerless former Gen Ex-er. Nope. Jubilee had, by some miracle of all the magic running around in the world, gotten her powers back. At least that's how she saw it.  She was not sure how it happened, but heck, she'd take it.

"Did you start and finish without me again, babe?" Jubilee asked as she walked in and looked up at Winston in the control room. "Or are you waiting for your class to show up? I saw Brion and Annora Sun out in the hallway, and I told them to shake a leg and get in here. Little good that did. He's out there trying to impress some new girl...and not doing all too well. Covered her in water and flooded one of the classrooms."

Jubilee noticed the banana peels and cola cans around the ledge of the control room and shook her head. "I should not have gotten you started on Jolt. We should take stock in the company with how much we drink! Now, are you coming down here, or should I head up there?"

Lou grunted as he sat upright in the chair, seeing Jubilee enter the room his eyes lit up. Pushing his glasses up his nose he altered a few dials before standing and leaping down to the danger room floor.

"Hey love, no I was just running the old Kraven sim. You know, the savage lands one?" he wrapped his arms around her and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Just keeping the old motor running while I wait for some more young minds to mould. No classes until three." he said with a sly wink. 

"That boy is forever late, chasing a new girl every week. Reminds me of a young monkey." he mocked playfully. 
Rolling his shoulders and flexing his enormous figure he chuckled "What do you think hun? Do I still have what it takes?"

[Jubilee]

"Oh, don't get me started on Brion, that girl Angie and Quentin Quire!" Jubilee said as she hugged Lou. "They got into some weird water, plant and telepathy battle in the cafeteria. Emma was going to lock them in a closet and make them think they were Teletubbies. The horror! And they ruined lunch for everyone."

Jubilee looked at Lou and smiled. "Of course you still have what it takes, but honestly, these kids need someone who has what it takes up here," she said as she tapped her temple, "as much as they do out there," she added as she motioned to the corners of the Danger Room. "They need to see you have to use your head as much as your strength or powers. Logan has got the battle stuff set. They need to be able to think in other ways."

Before Jubilee could say another word,  the student started to arrive, followed by Nightcrawler. "Kurt? What brings you down here?"

"I wanted to sit in on one of Winston's sessions," Nightcrawler said as he bowed to the professor. "And I need to talk to you after the session," he added as he nodded to Lou. "Nothing serious, but some of the students are getting a bit restless."

Lou laughed aloud at the cafeteria battle story "Ah forever in trouble and forever vying for position. Reminds me of us when I was still a field agent." he joked as he pushed her shoulder playfully. 

Smiling broadly at her statement about having what it takes he responded "I suppose I always was more of the tactician, Logan always was the heavy hitter of the team." straightening up he huffed as he said "Maybe it's time to take it up a notch. Same old simulations can't prepare the students well enough."

"Ah! Kurt! Students! Welcome!" Winston took on a serious expression "Athena? Run programme 626! Crisis Edition!"

Athena's voice came over the teleprompter. "Warning, students are advised that Professor Winston's assistance will be required for this simulation." as her voice faded out, the danger room shifted to a destroyed New York City. 

Winston spoke loudly "Tactical thinking and teamwork will be required, Nightcrawler and Jubilee have kindly volunteered for this training session." as he finished speaking, the first opponent revealed himself, the Green Goblin. Winston leapt up on the side of a building and began to climb as the Goblin lobbed bombs his way, catching one in his foot the professor spun around and flicked it back at him. Destroying his glider and sending him through a nearby wall. 

"This simulation is the Civil War scenario. Be mindful of any opponents you may face." as he said this, Magneto and Juggernaut came barrelling out of a nearby bank, Winston caught both of Juggernauts hands, doing the impossible, stopping him dead in his tracks. He let out a mighty roar as he ground his heels into the ground. "Anytime you're all ready!" he shouted as he aimed a well placed backhand across Marco's jaw.

((Oh snap!)) Jubilee thought as the Civil War scenario came on in the Danger Room. She could see Kurt wince a little as some of the buildings came into view. It reminded them both of the "dance" their former teammate Stalik had done with Iron Man, and both seemed to have a look on their faces that said "glad this is not actually reliving history" at this point.

"Keep sharp, people!" Jubilee yelled as a small chunk of building came hurtling at them. "TKs get your shields up now!" She was not sure who all had come in for the session, but a blast of fire followed by a second blast of water told her that Annora and Brion had actually made it in for the session. "Watch the fire! We may have gas leaks in this area!" she said as she pointed to a cloud of vapor coming from the ground. Then the vapor formed into a man. "Nitro is in play!" she said as she sent a chain-fire group of PAFs in his direction.

By now Annora, who used Andraste as her code name, was launching fiery blasts at Magneto. She took after her mother Enya and never ran from a challenge.
