Selene the basics full name • Selene nicknames • The Black Queen, The Black Priestess, Moon Goddess age • 17,000+ occupation • sorceress, real estate mogul, majority shareholder in many oil refineries current team • Selene's coven gender • female sexuality • heterosexual the appearance face claim • Monica Belluci height and weight • 5'10 and 130lbs. identifying features • raven hair overall appearance • Selene is a tall statuesque woman with an intimidating presence. Typically, she is depicted with radiant fair skin framed by her straight raven hair. Her piercing eyes light up when her abilities are in use, either with a red glow or an eerie solid white. She appears intimidating despite her small frame. Selene uses her attire as her advantage to distract her foes and appear vulnerable, though she gets personal satisfaction from her displays. Selene is typically seen in all dark colors like navy, black, purple, and deep reds. A great deal of the time, Selene wears the classic Black Queen attire of the Hellfire Club consisting of a black corset and panties coupled with a cape and knee high boots. Other times, Selene has been seen in a black bodysuit that boosts her front assets with a purple cape. the personality likes • expensive lingerie, clothing, jewels, manipulating others, youth and beauty dislikes • incompetence, insubordination, aging strengths • powerful personality, machivallianism/manipulative, clairvoyant, very witty and clever weaknesses • Obsession over physical appearance, tends to underestimate her enemies/overestimate herself, hubris dreams • Although technically immortal, Selene does not want to chase her youth and beauty and wishes to find a way to end that part of her "cursed" powers. She would love to get revenge on Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and the rest of the former Hellfire Club as well as the X-Men for standing in her way. Selene has sought out younger powerful mutants in the past as a sort of protege, pet, hobby and will likely continue to do so. Examples of this are Dani Moonstar, Rachel Summers/Grey, Eli Bard, and Cypher. fears • Her true form/age, vanity, Nimrod/Sentinels, Onslaught, Apocalypse, Phoenix overall personality • The dreaded Black Queen of the once famed Hellfire Club is the feminine personification of power and corruption. For thousands of years, she has manipulated others into doing her bidding. The first time we were introduced to the Black Priestess in Nova Roma, she showed that despite her disguise as a Senator's wife, she was pulling the strings of her puppet show all along. Although a powerful telepath, Selene doesn't need those abilities to bend the will of others, but make no mistake that she is not above doing so by any means necessary. It's no coincidence that she found her way into the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle once she made it to Manhattan. Before Selene, the Hellfire Club was responsible for the Dark Phoenix, perhaps the closest the world has come to a true apocalypse. And yet, when Selene met the Inner Circle, she showed them a brilliant display of power and sat on the Black King's throne as if she had already won it. She challenged Sebastian Shaw in every way without outright declaring herself the head of the Inner Circle. It has been said many times that poison is a woman's weapon, and Selene's charm works like poison, slowly eating away and corrupting those around her. In many ways, Selene pushed Sebastian Shaw to be better. With her at his back, he could not cower away from nigh impossible odds, and the Hellfire Club thrived during that time. What is very important to remember is Selene's femininity. She and Emma Frost would go back and forth with witty banter, throwing shade at one another. The insults were indirect but obvious. Selene loves to joke, although perhaps a demented sense of humor. She also acted like Sebastian Shaw's girlfriend at times, despite the power struggle, acting very excited over new gowns for their world famous galas. She definitely has an eye for fashion, although she stays true to the darker colors. the history father • unknown mother • unknown, died in childbirth prehistory siblings • unknown but unlikely hometown • born in central Europe in a time before cities. overall history • A great deal of Selene’s history remains a mystery to anyone other than herself. She was born around 17,000 years ago into a clan that traveled central Europe. She was born with her special abilities, absorbing her own mother’s life force as her first. They gave her the name Selene that would later be known widely in Greek and Roman mythology and the Cult of Selene. With her age, Selene is the oldest living person in the Marvel Universe with the exceptions of the Phoenix Force and other galactic beings. Selene was a renowned sorceress in the early days. She was a life-long enemy to the sorcerer Kulan Gath from the Hyperion Age. Because of the expanse of her Cult around the globe, it is expected that Selene was widely known throughout history. She was one of the Externels representing corruption, but was cast aside for her betrayals. The group was known for manipulating the global affairs of the world. Recently, more of Selene’s history has been revealed. Selene, known as the Greek/Roman Goddess of the Full Moon, planned to devour the souls of Rome in order to leave her body behind and ascend into true Godhood. In order to accomplish her plan, she manipulated and entrusted her plan to a man named Eliphias. He betrayed her, letting word out of her plan. Selene and Elphias were burned at the stake, but she used her power to flee. She cursed Elphias in her hatred with immortality and the burning desire to serve her. Despite the desire, he knew that he could never face her without making it right. Selene also cursed Rome, causing the spread of the Bubonic plague that lead to the fall of the Roman Empire. Meanwhile, Selene fled Rome. It’s unknown exactly what happened and there has been a great deal of speculation, but Selene ended up in the middle of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. She was a senator’s wife, Selene Gallio, in a hidden civilization modeled after Ancient Rome. Her demeanor of this time was a bit different in that she appeared obedient to her husband. She used her position to manipulate not only her husband but the entire civilization. Many of its inhabitants were indigenous people of the area, while many seemed to be descendants of the Roman’s. Perhaps Selene fled with many others and ended up in Brazil. There was a darker side to their civilization, The Black Priestess. Selene, as the Black priestess, would sacrifice the youth and beauty of the girls in Nova Roma by throwing them into a volcano and absorbing their life force. Selene first came into contact when the New Mutants found themselves in her civilization. They stepped in to save Amara Aquilla during the sacrifice. Unfortunately for Selene, the volcano helped trigger the young Magma’s mutant abilities. Magma joined the X-Men’s New Mutants still angry at Selene for the death of her mother and her near death. After Selene’s “death”, she followed the X-Men back to New York. Selene found herself in a bar. There was a hulky type widely known as the Juggernaut that caught her eye. She planned to steal his life-force but Marko was distracted by a fight with Colossus. Her next run-in was with Rachel Summers/Grey, a girl from an alternate future. Selene sensed the power in her and wanted to make her an apprentice, much like she wanted to do with Dani Moonstar back in Nova Roma. Selene’s attempts failed, so she murdered the man who had been taking care of Rachel. Selene overwealmed Rachel until Professor Xavier blasted her with his immense mental prowess, forcing her to flee. Needing to set-up a base of operations, Selene walked into an upscale jewelry shop on Park Avenue. She demanded that the owner send other customers out, and close shop for the day. He refused until Selene produced a gem, revealing her face to him. He apologized profusely and did as he was told. The man, Friedrich von Roelm, was a high priest of the Cult of Selene. He informed her of the Hellfire Club, a centuries old billionaires club that was covertly manipulating the world. On the way to the club, Selene allowed Rachel Summers to hear her thoughts, manipulating Rachel and Amara, both vengeful, into following the Black Queen. At the Hellfire Mansion, Friedrich von Roelm presented Selene to Sebastian Shaw, Black King, for the position of Black Queen. Sebastian Shaw explained that the title of Black Queen was a singular title, though Selene looked the part. Selene smirked and caused the ground beneath him to come alive and grab Shaw in a passive attack. Shaw used his strength to break free but mused that it was eerie that Selene used such an attack… Shaw condeded that her power was impressive. Selene fixed his throne and sat upon it comfortably making herself at home. She explained that among her people, a gift was customary and vanished. Shaw asked Tessa about her new display of power. She explained that it was a momentary trance and super speed. Selene knew that Amara and Rachel had infiltrated the Hellfire Mansion with her vast telepathic powers. Rachel believed Selene was sneakin up on her and blasted a full power shot of teke. As she was checking to see if Selene was still alive, Selene revealed that Rachel had blasted an illusion that was really Amara. Selene overpowered them and absorbed a part of their souls, causing them to become zombie slaves. Selene presented the two to Sebastian Shaw on chains. Shaw recognized Rachel’s face as being similar to the former Black Queen, the Phoenix. The slaves broke their mental hold and attacked the Black Queen, almost bring down the mansion. The X-Men, sensing the danger, broke into the mansion and Nightcrawler took Selene out with a nerve pinch. Shaw had no choice but allow Selene to rule as Black Queen. In the Lords Cardinal’s next few appearances, it became clear that Selene mocked Sebastian Shaw and wanted to rule the Lords Cardinal herself. Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost conspired against the Black Queen, planning to use Firestar to assassinate her. That plan backfired as Firestar learned of the plan. In the middle of their scheming, New York City came under siege by a master spell of Kulan Gath, placing everyone in ancient times, brainwashed. All except for Spider-man (for whatever reason), and Selene, an age old rival. Selene plotted against Kulan Gath but was found out and captured. Gath turned her into his pet, getting rid of her obnoxious mouth. Selene proved pivotal in helping the X-Men defeat Kulan Gath, revealing that his ‘pet’ was Amara once again concealed by an illusion while Selene took her place. This showed that while Selene is evil, she will do anything to accomplish her goals, even call upon the X-Men for help. Selene found herself in a repeat of sorts. She attempted to seduce the Gray Hulk in a bar, but found he was completely “not interested”. She tried to entice him with wealth and gold, but couldn’t get a rise out of him. Angry, she attacked only to find she was no match. Rachel Grey, after gaining control of the Phoenix Force, realized she could overpower and kill Selene herself. She broke into the Hellfire Mansion in the middle of the night and attacked Selene. Despite Selene’s cocky ego, she was overwhelmed and could have suffered a terrible fate, but the X-Men broke in to save her and Wolverine stabbed Rachel with a fatal wound. This prompted an argument with Kitty Pryde. The X-Men decided to find Rachel and help her. Meanwhile, Selene got dressed and called a meeting with the Inner Circle. She explained the attack and demanded that the Inner Circle retaliate. Shaw and the others were not convinced that it was an Inner Circle matter considering the hostile past between Selene and Rachel. Selene quipped, challenging Shaw that if he were afraid of the X-Men, perhaps it was time for a Queen to rule. He changed his mind. Rachel had ran across the street, into Central Park. As the Inner Circle came upon the scene, Selene transformed her Black Rook and sponsor, Friedrich von Roelm, into a lycanthrope-like creature in a baffling display. He started hunting the girl based on scent. The inevitable happened and the X-Men began battling the Inner Circle. Harry Leland used his mass altering powers to sink Colossus into the Earth. Rogue tried to help, but Selene used her absolute control over matter to disintegrate Rogue’s gloves, causing her to start absorbing Colossus. The battle was pretty much a stalemate until a futuristic sentinel called Nimrod teleported in. None of the X-Men or Hellfire Club’s abilities could overcome Nimrod. Friedrich von Roelm was killed. Sebastian Shaw was knocked miles over Earth. They were able to defeat it by using Leland’s abilities in his last breath to increase Shaw’s mass. Shaw fell to Earth and landed on the robot, destroying it. After the battle, an argument turned nasty between Magneto, the reigning White King, and Sebastian Shaw, renowned Black King. A vote was cast and it became Selene’s decision whether or not Shaw remained King or not. If she cast him out, she would gain a great deal of his financial holdings- She cast him out. Magneto declared that there was no reason to bring anyone else in as he would reign as Gray King over both courts. Magneto was using the Hellfire Club as financial leverage, and Selene grew weary of his Gray King status. It was during this time that Magneto left the X-Men and began constructing Asteroid M. Selene and Emma did what they could to occupy the time, but Selene had started a game of her own. Selene found a mutant omnipath named Gamesmaster to construct a game that would essentially kill any threats to her. These mutant Upstarts would kill key mutant figures for points, though they had no clue Selene was involved. In one of the first attacks, the Upstart from the future named Fitzroy slaughtered Emma Frost’s Hellions and put Emma in a coma. Selene was also behind the ‘killings’ of Sebastian Shaw via Shinobi and Magneto via Fabian Cortez. There were other lesser killings done by other Upstarts such as Matsu’o and the Fenris Twins. Things took a twist for Selene when Trevor Fitzroy set his sights on Selene. Knowing that she was immortal, Fitzroy (a descendent of the Shaw family) trapped Selene in a spooling chamber that literally ripped Selene apart, put her back together, and repeated. If she escaped, the entire mansion housing the chamber would self-destruct. Selene remained inside for a considerable time until she sensed the presence of Amanda Sefton, a lesser sorceress. Sefton was on a plane far away when Selene contacted her telepathically. Selene threatened to crash the plane unless Amanda helped Selene. Left with little option, Amanda showed up. Selene showed her how to turn it off, but failed to mention that the chamber had to be occupied at all times. As the spooling cycle slowed, Selene was free. She attempted to throw Amanda Sefton into the chamber when Nightcrawler appeared to help her. Selene threw Nightcralwer inside instead. Amanda was angry, but there were power dampeners in the mansion that Selene had adjusted to already. Selene grew stronger with each second she was free and engaged Amanda Sefton in battle. Selene underestimated the young sorceress. Amanda harnessed her emotions in an impressive display and blasted Selene threw the wall and into the forest. Selene was free, but her wounds hadn’t been put back together properly. She screamed out in pain. Selene was worried because her advanced healing wasn’t healing, but it did heal eventually. The event left her ego bruised. She had to acquire more power in case something happened again. Selene went to her Gothic castle in Paris to heal. While there, she sensed a force of magnificent power, Madelyne Pryor. Selene had witnessed the events of Inferno with the Lords Cardinal in New York years earlier, so she knew what potential the redhead had. Selene began using her abilities to mesmerize Madelyne, drawing her away from Nate Grey. Selene used an apple charm (reference to Disney) to mess with Madelyne’s mind. Selene formed a master plan to re-form the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle, but she had to amass more power. Selene, using her clairvoyance, could see something disastrous coming. She could feel the presence of Onslaught and feared for her survival. Selene began seeking out the Externals. One by one, she murdered them all. X-Force, led by Cable, attempted to get in the way. They all blasted her with everything they had only to have their powers reflected back on them by a powerful forcefield. Cable appeared and smacked her with his telekinesis. It wasn’t powerful enough to thwart her alone, but she attempted to absorb his lifeforce only to find it was tainted. She fled, even though she had gained a great deal of power. The next part of her plan required testing Madelyne and exacting revenge. Madelyne sought out Trevor Fitzroy and Selene kissed him, making him bend to her will. She then appeared in a display of thunder without lightning (teleportation) on Sebastian Shaw’s yacht. Selene explained that she wanted to establish a powerbase because of the oncoming problems like Operation Zero Tolerance. She offered Madelyne as the Black Rook and Fitzroy as the White Rook. Shaw and Tessa weren’t 100% convinced, but Selene’s logic was sound. They forced Madelyne to prove herself by placing her against the Red Rook, Scribe. She won, separating Scribe and Mountjoy. Shaw became fascinated by Madelyne and the two began an affair. Selene was losing her position of Black Queen and she began plotting with Tessa and Fitzroy to separate their union. However, every member had something happen that required them to separate, leaving Selene as the ruling member of the Hellfire Club. Selene aquired a legendary Runestaff, but it was trapped by a bloodlock, requiring Asgardian blood. Selene was no match for Thor, but an old…. Acquaintance was of Asgardian descent- Dani Moonstar. Dani and X-Force were at the Burning Man festival when Selene attacked them. Selene opened the lock with Dani’s blood. However, Selene was overconfident again until she was faced by her worst fear. Dani used her illusions to make Selene face her true, ancient self, which caused her to flee. Selene began recruiting demons to fill the positions of the Hellfire Club. She trapped the Hell Lord Damion Hellstorm for Blackheart to join her as Black King. Selene tried to recruit Roberto DaCosta-Sunspot, as Black Rook. She asked for his, and X-Force’s help in stopping an organization. Their interests were aligned, but Selene stepped in and tried to usurp their power. She and X-Force butted heads and she knocked them all out, trapping them in nightmares as she made the pitch to Sunspot. She explained that his father and her had butted heads when he was alive. She also explained that he could dismantle the Sentinel program easily with Hellfire Influence. She finally offered to return the soul of his long diseased girlfriend. He accepted, but Selene and Blackheart ran into trouble with the Fantastic Four and Margali Szardos who banished them both. Sebastian Shaw attempted to reform the Hellfire Club with Tessa. His Hellfire Club consisted of Courtney Ross, Sunspot, Viper, and himself. Selene and Donald Pierce made a pact together. Sebastian Shaw was making the club a power for good, likely as a manipulation scheme. Selene was freed from her prison. She was running a slave trade in the Hong Kong Chapter of the Hellfire Club. Emma Frost and Rachel Grey infiltrated the scheme to stop it. Emma and Courtney faced off in a game of draw (Courtney really being evil Sat-Yr-9). Selene consumed Red Lotus and faced off against Rachel Grey AND her Phoenix Force. Selene tried to lure Rachel in, allowing Selene to consume her. Even with the Phoenix Force, Rachel was being overpowered until she was about to be consumed. She overpowered Selene and seemingly killed her… the role player alias • Charles/Chuck age • 27 pronouns • He other characters • |
